NCFE Level 3 Bushcraft Instructor

For those who have successfully completed the Level 2, this is your next step.

If you’re ready to step fully into advanced practice and truly embed yourself in the woods, this is the next stage of your journey.

The Level 3 Bushcraft Instructors Course is designed to deepen your personal skills, expand your woodland knowledge, and refine your technical ability. At this stage, we already know you can teach. Now the focus shifts to mastery — building the depth of competence and confidence that allows you to create powerful, experience-led sessions of your own.

What is it?

This is a fully immersive residential experience running Monday to Friday, where you’ll camp on site and create your own woodland area to practise, experiment and refine your skills. Over five full days, you’ll slow down, settle into the rhythm of the woods, and properly develop advanced bushcraft competencies — not just covering skills, but living them.

What will be covered?

  • Unit 1 – Tree and Plant ID
  • Unit 2 – Natural Cordage
  • Unit 3 – Friction Fire Lighting
  • Unit 4 – Natural and manmade tinders
  • Unit 5 – Advanced Knife Work / Woodworking
  • Unit 6 – Axe use and Maintenance
  • Unit 7 – Fires for different uses
  • Unit 8 – Campfire food / baking
  • Unit 8 – Water Collection and Treatment

How it will work?

This course is deliberately immersive and practical.

We are not heavily focused on teaching technique — that foundation was established at Level 2. Instead, we concentrate on:

  • Expanding depth of knowledge
  • Refining technical precision
  • Increasing environmental awareness

You will build and maintain your own living/work area during the week, creating a space to practise, experiment and refine techniques in a realistic setting.

Assessment:

The assessment is primarily through continued observation and practical assessment throughout the week.

In addition, there are post-course elements to complete, plus an assessment day. To accommodate travel and time constraints, there is the option to submit assessment day components remotely via recorded evidence, reducing the need for return travel.

This ensures high standards while remaining accessible and practical.

The Qualification:

This is a Land and Wave NCFE Customised Qualification, developed specifically to meet the needs of bushcraft instructors.

It has been accredited by NCFE, an awarding organisation recognised by:

  • Ofqual (England)
  • Qualifications Wales
  • CCEA Regulation (Northern Ireland)

The qualification has been benchmarked at Level 3, demonstrating both the depth and difficulty of study through clearly defined learning outcomes and assessment criteria.

Do it. You will love it!
